EOTD+ Review: Revlon Colorburst Lipstick in Soft Nude

Hey sweeties! Tomorrow, I'm expecting a swap to come in, so I'll post pictures of that. I hate to say this, but I'm going to be ending the string of reviews on a sour note. Today's review item in the spotlight is going to be.. Revlon's Colorburst lipstick in Soft Nude. Let me tell you, I was so excited to get this lipstick! When i saw the 3 dollars off coupon in People's Magazine (or US whatever), I nearly crapped in my pants and I ripped off the entire page. Plus, this week, it was a BOGO half of Revlon products at CVS, so my sister and I got something. I used the 3 dollars off and a 2 dollar CVS extrabucks to reduce the total price of the lipstick to 3.50. I pay half, my sister pay half.

What Revlon Says:
Instant burst of rich, true color with a featherlight feel-Elasticolor™ technology provides immediate color release and hugs lips with a burst of weightless color that feels like a second skin
-Available in range of 20 gorgeous shades

What I say:

I was actually going to try this out for a week, but no. Let's start with some high points. First off, the cap matches the lipstick. Since you can't see the lipstick in the case, obviously your (or at least my) first instinct is to prowl around the internet to see if some other adventurous lady has bravely purchased the lipstick without seeing the bullet. But, the cap color seriously matches the lipstick color. Secondly, the case feel nice becuase of the quilting. But I don't understand why it's only on 2 of the sides? Is it becuase Revlon ran out of money to print the other two sides with a quilt pattern? I don't know, and frankly, I don't care.

The feel of the lipstick, intially was good. It felt like a creamy concealer. After using the Revlon Colorstay Soft and Smooth though, I was dissapointed. Even my N.Y.C lipsticks were more slippy than this colorburst, but it's only going to get worse.

The color selection is quite excellent. I wanted to try the fuschia one out, but you know, when am I going to use that? It would just be for novelty purposes.

The smell is slightly off. It smells like fake cupcakes, but it's pretty faint.

The color pigmentation is opaque and covers even the most pigmented lips. I love the peach nudeness of it. However, it seems to enjoy accentuating flakes that I didn't even know existed and leave inner lip rings. Like you get this white ring on the inside of your lips if you reapply too much. Also, if you do reapply too much, you get the stuff caking up in your lip wrinkles/invisible flakes. That's quite a Catch-22 considering the staying power is bascially 3 hours before you have to reapply.

And I know I mentioned the adherence to flaking right? Well, at the beginning of the day, my lips were smooth, but by mid afternoon, I realized that the lipstick that I reapplied at around 10 has faded and my lips were so chapped, it was digusting. As much as I would have loved to take pictures, I don't want you ladies to faint at the sheer disgustingness of it. Seriously, there were flakes falling off. when I scrubbed my lips with a piece of toilet paper to take off the lipstick, flakes were just falling off. It was like a winter blizzard. Luckily, I had a backup lippie (Neutrogena Moistureshine) that matched my eyemakeup and I put that on. For some reason, after I put that lippie on, my flakes were smoothed over.

I guess if you have glass-like smoothness lips, this is a product for you! How ironic is that the colorstay lipstick was like butter, and didn't dry my lips out, while this was like hell.

The price tag is quite dissapointing as well. It retails for 8.99 at CVS and other mass retailers. I know that this isn't as bad as Neutrogena Moistureshine (9.99), but this is a drugstore product. I felt that this time, Revlon probably put more money into matching the cap color and the bullet color than in actually formulating a good lipstick. I wouldn't recommend this to my worst enemy and therefore, I cannot recommend this to you ladies. You are better off getting a cheap Wet and Wild lipstick for a dollar. Hell, save 9 dollars and get 9 lipsticks!

Toodles. And tell me something. I'm actually looking for a faux leather jacket. How much do you ladies recommend spending on it?

Review: Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Custom Eye Enhancing Gel CreamLiner and a quick EOTD

I know that this is the third product review in a row (I've got a 4th planned LOL) but I LIKE doing reviews! I know that some ladies here don't like to do reviews because it's boring or whatnot, but personally, I LOVE doing reviews. I think that it's fun to experiment and it forces me to test out new products with new combos everyday! But to appease some other ladies, I've included a EOTD using the liners.
Swatches:

What They Say:

Three custom shades provide a glamorous look to define and enhance your eye color.
Unique gel cream formula glides-on effortlessly and smoothly while providing the definition of a liquid eyeliner.
Long-wearing, water-resistant and smudge-resistant formula provides 24-Hour definition.
Includes Pro-Eyeliner Brush for effortless and precise application.
Stackable eyeliner pots can be pulled apart for individual use on-the-go.

Pros/Cons

First off, I'd like to apologize for the lack of swatches. I've only included one neatly, unsmudged swatch of the Green Eyes Trio becuase well, it's pointless to take pictures of it smudging. It's bascially unbudgeable after like 10 seconds. It sets super quickly and if I try to smudge it, my camera isn't sensitive enough to capture the "smudging" (more like 1 flake comes off with 30 seconds of scrubbing). Also, it's pretty good against water, as with water, it came off, slightly, not really. With eye makeup remover, it stilll was slightly annoying.

What kind of wear does this provide?

  • Waterline- Bascially none. I don't recommend this for the waterline becuase it doesn't go on pigmentedly at all, and the staying power is bascially none.

  • Upper Lash Line- Really great especially for monolids. It resists water and oil pretty well so it doesn't transfer all over the place. It's actually even better than the L'Oreal HIP cream liner for the upper lash line. It really locks itself in place. Usually when I do black liner on the top lid to wing it, it kind of transfers and "dirties" up the eyeshadow resulting in a half muddy, half not (when I close my eye).

  • Lower Lash Line with UDPP- Fantastico. It does fade a bit, especially if you have teary eyes and in the out corners, but it's nothing I can't handle. At least when it does fade, it fades evenly and not like racoon eye-like

  • Lower Lash Line w/o UDPP- Not recommended. For me, I tear a lot and sweat a lot, so the eyeliner faded a lot faster. Maybe...6 hours?

Pigmentation is okay. Nothing to rave about really. The black is pigmented, so are the other colors. I would have liked to see something bolder, but it's alright really. The color selection, however, is great. Although it seems like PF is recycling colors, if you look at swatches in other sites, you can see that actually the colors are all pretty different. The only color that's not different enough for me is the blacks. They're actually blacks with micro shimmer in green, blue, etc. However, the microshimmer isn't really that visible and maybe I can see them if I shove the product 2 millimeters from my eyeball. I'll keep it just if I want to do a black liner on my upper lid, but besides that, at least you can swap it away right? Or "backup" (to your other 10000 black eyeliners. I know you chicks do that too!)

Size of the product is disgustingly small. It's actually smaller than a quarter. Even the Maybelline Studio Gel eyeliner is actually larger than this. However, you do get 3 gels for a price only slightly higher than one Maybelline gel liner and this liner kicks that liners ass.

The feel of this product is more gelly than butter. It's like the L'Oreal HIP cream liner. If you don't have that, then it's like sticking a knife in a cake. It's soft, but not too soft. The applicator is a keeper. It makes good, thin lines and it's cute and actually a good length to use.

Do I recommend this product? Yes, I do! I like it, even though the price is high for a drugstore item. It sells for 10.95 at Physiciansformula.com, CVS, Ulta, etc. Sometimes though, you can get it for 40% off at CVS (that's where I got mine), for BOGOF, BOGO half, etcetcetc. Look out for sales!

Sewing Projects on Sundae'z

You like how I spelled Sunday? I think that it's quite fantabulous as well thank you very much. Hold the applause.

Anyway, over the weekend (meaning Friday and Saturday of this week and last week), I was busy doing mundane and boring stuff such as prepping for my APs, but I was also able to make a new dress for my sister! It's for her 8th grade graduation and I finally finished it! I think that this is my best work to date, although I do need to figure out how to do zippers without the bunching and ugliness. Good thing I found a site that made a GREAT tut on that. I'll have to try that out next time I do something.

Here is my sister modeling the dress.

My only regret is that I can't bring my sewing machine with me to CMU LOL. I wouldn't have time in the first place! I'll be back in the middle of the week with a review of the PF cream liners, and I've got a couple swaps shakin' and bakin' so those will be at the end of the week.

Review: Maybelline Studio Drama Gel Liner

I am on a roll ladies! Two reviews back to back? Unheard of! I know, please hold the applause. I would just like to say right now, sorry for the lack of pictures lately but I can't find my camera charger and my camera is out of batteries. Oh poop.

Anyways, the swatch for this nifty little product is two posts ago. This is Maybelline's Gel Liner in Brown. I got this via swapping on makeupalley.

According to Maybelline: Only our oil-free formula can hold highly concentrated pigments in a clear gel base.
So color is more intense and lines resist wear for 24 hours.
Smudge-proof and Water-proof.
The most intense line for lasting drama.

According to me:

Consistency: It's like stick butter, or spreadable butter. Go on, step away from the screen, take a knife, and stick it into butter. That's what it feels like. It is decadently smooth and creamy and I like how you just take the applicator, and stab it into the product once. That sounded weird, but it's true.

Color Pigmentation: It's alright. I don't think that it's INTENSE, unless you layer it. But since it's so creamy, you can't really layer it becuase then the product you just put on your eyeball will come off. It's decent.

Applicator: Some companies like to include useless dinky "applicators" so young girls who don't know what brushes are or who are just starting out in makeup can use them. Honestly, there are so many cheap brushes out there now, that companies should ditch the applicators and give more product. (I'm looking at you L'Oreal with the useless "brush" that came with the Cream Liner) With that being said, I expected this to be some useless gizmo to jack up the price. No way! It looks like a mini brush that you would get from a holiday set from MAC or something. Personally, I think that it's great becuase it's ultra small for thin lines, but you can also make thick lines as well. This time, the applicator is something you should keep, just in case.

Wear Powa'- I used this over a few days with a few different methods becuase I know that you ladies have different methods of eyeliner use
  • Waterline- It's useless on the waterline. The staypower here is barely 2-3 hours and it doesn't look pigmented at all on the waterline
  • Lower lash with UDPP- It's alright really. I see some fading, but not too much. This was the best in terms of wear. I don't see a 24 hr thing going here. Maybe 8-10 hours before it's gone
  • Lower lash w/o UDPP- Not too great. I find that usually when I use stuff like L'Oreal HIP cream liner, Annabelle smudgeliner, Sephora Brand flashy waterproof, and Smashbox gel liner, it does kinda smudge, but not too much. It's bearable smudging. Don't use this w/o a base if you have acid tears like me.
  • Upper lash liner- It's pretty good for monolids, with primer

Smudgability- Horrid. Really. I put some on, and right away my sleeve smudges it. It takes maybe a minute to dry and "set", but even then, it's easy to smudge. It is pretty water resistant though!

Do I reccomend this? Meh, not really. I'd actually advise you to go to a different brand. I guess it's good if you have not so watery, teary eyes or if you just want something on the cheap (actually ELF is cheaper). Price ranges from 8.49 on Amazon to 10 dollars on Ulta

Review: Revlon Colorstay Soft & Smooth Lipcolor

Hello ladies! So, I had the opportunity to get a Revlon lipstick through swapping yay! I posted swatches in the post before, so if you want a quick swatch of this, just click on the post before this post!

My chosen color: Natural Cashmere- a corally peach color. On drugstore.com, it looks as if it is a nude pink, but on me, it looks corally peach.

Claims: Lipstick so soft and smooth you won't believe it's long-lasting. Hours and hours of luscious, feel good color in one smooth step. Available in a wide range of beautiful shades

What I say:

First off, let's start with the pros. This stuff feels like cupcake frosting or spreadable butter on your lips. It smells kind of like frosting actually, but I don't notice the smell, and to smell something, I have to practically shove the tube up my nostril. Seriously though, I expected something more hard or unspreadable because it is "colorstay".

The lipstick goes on opaque (at least this color does) which is good for ultra pigmented lip girls (like me!). The finish of this lipstick is like a satin. It does look a bit matte, but there are ULTRA FINE sparkles in it which make it not a matte. If you like a shiny finish, you better get a gloss on there.

Feel-wise, it doesn't feel drying at all! It feels like nothing is on your lips because after one minute or so, it "sets". This means that it kind of dries on your lips so that when you brush your fiinger against your lips, you don't get transfer. Meaning, no lip rings on cups! yay!

For the cons, although it doesn't feel drying, it looks drying because it has this matte-like finish. Also, it really clings. I mean, it's a real pain to get off. I was in the shower, washing my face and I used the St.Ives apricot scrub to scrub my lips (to exfoliate). I get out of the shower, and the lipstick was still there! True story!

Do I recommend this? As a color, yes and as a product, yes. It retails at prices ranging from 4.35 at Amazon.com to around 10 dollars at CVS.

Quick Haulies~

Hey ladies! THis is just a quick post before I go off to fill out some scholarship forms. I'll be doing reviews at the end of this week! So, I did a swap and I swapped away a L'oreal sublime bronze + extras for a Revlon Lipstick in Natural Cashmere and a Maybelline Gel liner in Brown. I also got the little brush, which I love!

I LOVE the Natural Cashmere color. I expected it to be more brown, but it's like a coral color. Super great becuase I don't have anything like this! Also, the maybellline is quite small when compared to Smashbox and L'Oreal HIP. I didn't expect that, but I guess it's expected since it's at a low-ish price

Experiment: Lightening Eyebrows like Petrilude

Hey ladies, how is everyone today? Today is a happy Friday, and also time for me to show you something pretty cool that I saw on youtube. I was watching Petrilude's channel on youtube and I watched his 2nd most newest video on lightening your eyebrows w/o bleach! And knowing me, I immediately clicked on it becuase frankly, I'm not sure if I like the whole trimming eyebrows thing. I'm just really really bad at it. See pictures below, I have a bald spot on there. Here's the instructions:

1. Put concealer on a little spoolie. I used MAC's studio finish because it's a cream, and I think that cream concealer will be the best for this project. I personally think that liquid might make your eyebrow hairs stick together and powder... no. I personally think that you need the cream because also it'll kinda tame your hairs if you need taming. You can just get free spoolies at sephora, Kohls, whereever theres makeup that you can test out. Just grab a few and shove 'em in yo' pocket.

2. Brush the spoolie on your eyebrow and try not to go outside the eyebrow lines. If you do, just blend it out with a finger or something. You want to really work the concealer into the skin and hair so everything is coated and approximately your skin color.

3. You can leave it like that, but personally, I wanted a brown eyebrow to match my orangey/blonde/red hair. That's the whole POINT of this right? I used my current eyebrow stuff known as Revlon Matte Eyeshadow in Rich Sable. Well, I didn't know that the concealer would change the color of the eyeshadow so it came out like a soft black. Fortunately, I have a lighter brown color that I'd use in school because if I wanted black brows, I'd keep my eyebrows as they are. The right is the normal powder stuff (I touched it up) and the left is the concealer/powder

What do you guys think? I personally like this method becuase my eyebrows do fade a bit by the end of the school day and I like the look. It's really clean and if you are really going crazy or something, you can take inspiration from Lillian Funny Face and fill in your brows with pink or other colors!

College Notifications!

YESSSS! I have officially gotten the old post editor back! I do miss Amazon Associates, but you know, this I'll be able to manage my pictures easier. Maybe the new post editor is better for those who actually can navigate the computer world right? Right. I don't know LOL.

ANYWAY, I just wanted to share some supurbly great news! I have officially decided that I will be attending.....CARNEGIE MELLON!

How exciting is that? Well, it's not OFFICIAL OFFICIAL considering that my parents have to pay the deposit and we're waiting for financial aid/scholarships and we have to plan out some ortho stuff. I'm supposed to get braces becuase frankly, this overbite isn't going to cure itself and better now when I still look 14 without makeup than when I'm 40 and I won't pass for 21. Right? Right. Plus it's probably going to be only for 1.5 years so really, it's just 1.5 years now for like... forever with great teeth. I'm not sure how it's going to work. Maybe take a bus back home every like 2 months? Get a on campus job to pay for it? I don't know.

Let's do remember that this contest ends today, 12 midnight E.D.T. And how did you guys feel when you got into college? Share your experience!

And I won't be posting for a week becuase I'll be in the Netherlands to visit some family there! I'll be back with pictures and such
