Tutorial: Chains and Flowers Necklace

Sorry for not posting earlier, but I was slightly busy and tired. What happened was that on FRIDAY, I passed my driving test! Yay! But I couldn't get my provisional liscence until Saturday, because I was missing a point of identification. You have to have 6 points, and I had my school ID, but not a report card to verify it. So, on Saturday, I spent 1 hour and 15 minutes waiting at the DMV, but it was worth it. I also hit up AC Moore on Saturday, and I was supposed to make this post also yesterday, but... I was tired and I wanted to watch TV.
Anyway, this tutorial is on a necklace that I saw in a Macy's ad in People en Espanol. I like that magazine even though I don't really read Spanish. I do study it in school, but the curriculum in my class is slightly horrifyingly bad. Hence, I just look at the pictures and kinda skim a bit. Picture below:

What You Need:
  1. Chain (s)
  2. Zipper
  3. Pliers
  4. Lace
  5. Clasps
  6. Buttons
Instructions:

  • Let's start with something easy first. First, take the 3 pieces of lace and braid them together. I took a large piece of lace, chopped it in three and then braided them. There should be two knots on either end. Since this is the back of the necklace, it should be around 6 inches.

  • Making the flower is the hardest part and it might not be too easy to get. Sorry, but sewing is the best way to do this. You'll need a zipper, between 2- 3ft long, like the ones on trench coats. Since you'll need 2 parts, if you can just find an old coat, it would be best. But if you want to buy it, then you can probably find detachable ones to make coats. First, you want to make a loop with the zipper side facing out. Sew that sucker on, then with the end, make another loop approximately on the opposite side. Sew, then continue. I have done a demonstration with paper, with the black stuff simulating the zipper side. If you can't get this done, you can always use silk flowers and such! There's an easier way to do this flower, and I'll do a demo on that once I get some more zippers.

  • Once you are done, pop a button or two in the center.

  • Now, to the lace braids, you want to attach the clasps with some thread to the knots and then glue one end of the knot to the flower. This is what it should look like right now. I used Gorilla Glue which I LOVE. You just need to wait a bit for it to dry.

  • Now, it's time to attach the chains. I used one link chain that is 100 inches. You can use different chains of varying lengths to achieve this look. Note that not all chains come in 100 inches. Some go from 12 inches to 72 inches, so do read the fine print. I used a pair of pliers to open the links. First you open one end of the link, attach it to the knot behind the flower, measured it as long as I wanted it to be, opened that end of the link and then attached it to the knot. Since the material is lace you should be able to push the link inside. With the pliers, you can close the link. If you have something like a twisted link chain where you can't open the links easily, I recommend getting Jewelry Wire Side Cutters Pliers or Craft & Jewelry Tool - 3 In 1 Pliers which is the one I got from AC Moore to cut the chain. Then you would need some Jump Rings to attach it onto the lace knot. You can buy the jump rings either opened or closed.
  • Keep adding the chains of varying lengths and here is the finished product!

Wow that was a long post! Keep crafting ladies! Now I just have to find something to wear it with! Any suggestions? Also, I currently HATE HATEHATEHATHEATHAETHAEHTAEHTHAEHTAEHTAEEhate the new image uploading thing. I wish that they'd bring the old version back becuase this time, you can only do left, right and center, no custom. Now, I hate posting pictures becuase I can't put them next to each other. If I try to do that, the pictures jump all over the place, pictures won't go under each other. I read reviews about now everyone LOVESS the new post editor because it makes it easier to do pictures. That's bull shit. It's only good if you don't have many pictures to upload at once.

Mighty J Giveaway Haul!

Thanks so much Mighty J! I recently won her giveaway and I'm quite pleased with the prizes! Since I know for a fact that I'm not going to use everything, I'm going to post up some of them up for sale/swap. Everything to the left of and including the glitter liners are up for swap/sale. Does anyone notice this new stuff here to write posts? I just uploaded the new Amazon Associates thing, which is pretty nice and now, the posting format is different. I actually don't mind it becuase everything is so nicely organized and uploading pictures is much nicer. I can format the picture, while its already uploaded on the post. I don't know. Let me know what you think of this new stuffles!

Swatches:

I will be back with a new post because Lillian just gave me a new blog award! Plus, I'm going to AC Moore's this Saturday, so by Sunday I should be back with a new necklace tutorial! I haven't done those in AGESS. And plus, I've been LOVING those EBM/ Industrial Techno songs that I have. Any song suggestions?

NV Beauty Entry! and quick updates while I'm at it

Remember! There is only approximately 2 more weeks to enter my contest (linked in the sidebar) so go join! Also, I am adding a MAC pro pan in Chrome Yellow to the blog sale yay!

I'm bored, so I decided to enter this contest (linked to the title) with an old look. You could technically enter in as many as you want, so I guess I will? LOL I don't know. I've been pretty down in the dumps lately, but maybe it's because I'm bored with winter. I wish that it'd be warm enough for shorts and skirts. It is, I'm sure but I feel cold easily haaaaa. Again, I'm lazy, so I didn't even do my whole face becuase I was going to wash it off anyway? Sorryyyyy.

New Hair Look?

Hey everyone! Sorry for not posting lately, but I've been busy- read- LAZYY. I've been meaning to do a post on a LIPOTD. How do you abbreviate lip of the day anyway? LOTD? Then what about Look of the day? Would that be Face of the day instead? You know, I hope that one day, these abbreviations will be set in stone. Or maybe they are, but I'm just unaware about that.

Anyway, I dyed my hair yesterday! I used Revlon Colorsilk in 03 Sun Blonde and sat outside in the sun for 25 minutes out of the 45 minutes you're supposed to do. This is the result!

I didn't know that it would be so red/blonde (no orange, becuase i hate the color orange >:[ ) I thought that it would be a chestnut color maybe? Well, then since I hated my eyebrows so dark and constrasty with my new hair, I cut them shorter so that they don't look so BLACK and so I could fill them in with some dark brown eyeshadow. I don't know though, I kind of want to lighten them a bit. Maybe a bit of hair bleaching cream on each eyebrow for 15 seconds to get them to be a dark brown? Anyone bleach their eyebrows want to email me or comment below with some advice? It would mean a whole tons.

EOTD: 1960's entry to Purple Crown Princess Competition!

Hey lovely ladies, yesterday, I did an eye look to enter the competition by Purple Crown Princess :http://purplecrownprincesscosmetics.blogspot.com/2010/03/competition-alert.html I did mine on the 1960's. You could win an UD book of shadows Vol II or other stuffles!

I'm so lucky that I bought the Biore wipes beforehand becuase well after I finished the look, there was no running water in my house due to the 2 day long rainstorm in the tristate area (NY, NJ, PA (?)). Seriously. I was one of the luckier ones because I only lost water for a day and a half and the water now is pretty undrinkable. When my family and I went out to get food, we saw literally 50 ft + trees RIPPED out from thier roots because of the wind. Most people lost power AND water. When we lost water, we went to like... a McDonalds 3 towns away to use the bathroom.

But here is my eyelook and hair look.

Products Used:

  • Almay Interplay Mascara
  • NYX Jumbo Pencil Yogurt
  • L'Oreal HIP duo in Gilded (gold side) inner corner
  • Combo of B2TE Dandelion and Mineral Basics Gold Shimmer in part nearest nose
  • Revlon Matte Shadow in Innocence as highlight
  • Mineral Basics in Mer-tresses inner 1/3
  • Mineral Bascis in Bronze Shimmer middle 1/3
  • Mineral Basics in Feline- Familiar outer 1/3
  • B2TE Forest Nymph to form cat eye
  • B2TE Tree Spirit to darken cat eye
  • Mineral Basics Paradise Aqua lower lid
  • Mineral Basics Grape even lower lid
  • L'oreal HIP cream eyeliner to line lower lash line.
  • Too Faced Lipstick in Marcia Marcia Marcia

PHEW I'm glad that's finished. But i had fun anyway.

Review: Biore Deep Cleansing Makeup Removing Towelettes

I'm going to put this out there right now. I was a makeup wipe hater. Seriously. I thought of them as wasteful, not economical, and just pretty useless. The makeup wipes are HUGE and usually I never USE them all on a face. Usually I find that liquid makeup remover lasts longer, although you do need the buy the cotton pads, but they're cheaper than dropping 8 bucks on a pack of 30 every month right?

So why did I ever pick this up? I was really low on cash, it was on sale (2 dollars off) at CVS and there was a save 1.00 NOW so, I bought it for 5 bucks. It can tide me over right?
Right to Left: Eyeshadow with UDPP, L'oreal HIP eyeliner, MAC studio finish concealer, Almay Light Interplay Mascara, Sephora Brand Flashy copper eyeliner.
What It Claims:
Want a quick, thorough and effective clean that instantly dissolves dirt, oil, and makeup? NEW Bioré® Makeup Removing Towelettes remove waterproof mascara better than the leading towelette, and with no nasty residue.

What I Say: HELL YEAH! This stuff POWERS through everything, seriously! I used to use Pond's cold cream and I usually need to like glob it on my face to get off my 100000 layers of mascara, but this, just pop it on for 15 seconds, and most of it comes off. I also like the toilet paper consistency of the wipe becuase i can kinda grab my lashes and wash the mascara off. Don't try this at home, or be careful! LOL you don't want to rip out your lashes. But I find that I still need a second makeup remover to get the stuff like eyeliner in my lower lash line becuase it's not really small enough. I like my q-tips there.

Also, I have pretty dry skin around my eyes so it gets pretty irritated if I have to do a lot of wiping and scrubbing. My skin was starting to burn with Pond's. For this, my eyeskin stung a tiny bit but it quickly went away. Also, my eyes felt CLEAN. It wasn't like "AHHHHHHH I'M BLINDED BY THE OIL!!!" or "AHHHHH MY SKIN IS FALLING OFF!" I felt okay just walking around without formally washing my face with a face cleanser.

I don't find the smell offensive, but some people might. I kind of like the Biore signature green tea ish smell. It smelled like the dual moisturizer, but the moisturizer was less chemically.

Pricewise, it's almost the same as the MAC bulk wipes which retail at 100 for 26.00. This is 30 for 8 dollars.
Quick Tips:
  • Cut the wipes in thirds. That's what I do to save!

  • The package says to use by 45 days, but I think that it's because the product will dry out. You can again maximize usage by storing it upsidedown so the makeup remover won't evaporate.

Will I buy again? Probably yes, if it's on sale. I wish that they made this in a liquid form because I stilll favor the liquid stuff, but this is a good alternative. Also, I still need a second makeup remover to get the bits in my lower lash line.

OOTD: Pearls and Such

Update on Blog sale: I have just added a VIVA GLAM GAGA to my makeup sale. Email me if you'd like it!

So! Happy Wednesday everyone! I hope that everyone is feeling super fantastico? I certiantly am considering it's the middle of the week and so I'm going to do an outfit of the day. My inspiration? The fake pearls that I found under my mom's sink.

Sorry, but everything here really can't be purchased in stores becuase i have no idea where they come from! The skirt was handmade and I did make a post on that. It should be under the tutorials label. I apologize for the underwear hanging in the background, but it's necesary. We don't really use a laundry dryer even though we have one becuase my family likes to save money.

EOTD: 1,2,3 Dance with me

Yesterday, I was on Blix's blog and when I looked at her profile stuff and it mentioned "goth" music, so naturally I youtubed it and I got Stage 2 by X-RX and DAMN, I don't know about you, but I like this! You guys are going to think I'm crazy or something, but I like techno. No, to avoid any questions, I don't do techno dance or any kind of dance. It's embarrassing to watch me dance considering I'm really really athletically challenged and possibly have 2 left feet.

Enough with the creeper stuff, I swear, I didn't mean for ANY of that to come out funny. If it did (talking to you Blix), sorry!

Today, I woke up and made this eye look:

Products Used:

  • UDPP sample
  • Kitchmas pigment (MAC)
  • Gold Shimmer (Mineral Basics)
  • Unknown pigment (Given to me by Lizzard. If you are reading this Liz, and you know what pigment it is, tell me the name!)- It's like a dupe of Milani's Golden Bronze (you can still purchase it on their website) or a lighter version of Smog by UD. It's weird becuase it looks like this purple brown color but on my eyelids, it's just a neutral bronze)
  • Grape (Mineral Basics)
  • Almay mascara (Light interplay) 2 coats
  • L'Oreal HIP cream liner in black
  • True Black to set the eyeliner and fill the brows a tad bit (B2TE)

Have a nice day ladies and don't forget to enter my contest! Toodles!

Layout problems: I hate winzip

Just a quick thought: I hate my current layout. Oh well, I don't HATE IT, but you know, it's annoying. I want to change it, but hey man, I don't have winzip, and I'm really not going to buy it. So, does anyone know a way to open these files w/o winzip? Or even better, does anyone know how to make these layout things, know a good site, or whatever? If so, comment below, because I'm thinking of making a new contest of who can give me/make the best layout. It would be like this: Each person would email the layout screenshot to me then I will choose the best one! Then the person would send the layout to me (already unzipped) and then I would send them a fabulous prize! Obviously open internationally. I recommend that each person would send 2 just in case that people send duplicates. I probably would have 2 prizes: one for best layout and one for randomness

Let me know what you lovely ladies think becuase if no one comments, I'm not going to put up this contest!
